Sport in Desford is a Registered Charity (No: 110319) and was set up by Desford Parish Council in 1988 to provide cost effective sports facilities for the local community. Since the Parish Council purchased the land in 1988, Sid has raised funds from many sources to develop the site into the half million pound facility that it is today.  Its specific objects are to provide sporting and recreational facilities for the people of Desford and its environs, particularly in making provision for bowls, football, tennis, squash, fitness and running. It is run by a management group which in turn is answerable to the Board of 6 Trustees, all of whom work on a voluntary basis. There are currently over 500 members, belonging to the various different sections mentioned on the home page.

SiD attempts to encourage participation in recreational sports to as wide a group of people as possible, including people of all ages and physical ability. In doing this it works closely with partners at Bosworth Sports College, Desford Parish Council and Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.
