Desford Heritage Festival 2nd/3rd July 2022
Thank you to everybody who took part in this brilliant event and especially to all the marshals from Desford Striders who helped on Saturday at SiD, Events associated with SiD included:
-
The aerial display by 6 Tiger Moth aircraft to celebrate their extensive use for initial pilot training during WWII on Desford Airfield, now occupied by Caterpillar, Neovia and Griffen Park, was initially postponed due to poor weather. It did eventually take place at 3.40pm on Saturday and was a brilliant spectacle lasting 25 minutes. We are extremely grateful to the brave pilots and to Griffen Park for sponsoring this display .
-
The fly past of a Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight was also abandoned twice on the Saturday due to the weather. However the pilot flew back from Cardiff on the Sunday and brought a Hurricane on his wing late on the Sunday afternoon to great acclaim.
-
A display of a eight classic American cars around the SiD clubhouse was much appreciated by many of our visitors
-
A come and try it heritage tennis session on the tennis courts 1pm to 3pm (wooden rackets long skirts and trousers, blazers and boaters!) went really well. Thanks to the members of DLTC for persisting despite the intermittent rain.
Overall there were some 70 events happening all over the village and was a superb celebration of Desford’s heritage,
