Desford & District Local History Society (DDLHS)
The Society was formed in the 1980s to promote interest in, and the study and research of, local history and archaeology in Desford and the local area.
- We have a collection of local archive materials, consisting of documents, photographs, books, oral recordings and other artefacts which have been used to produce exhibitions and booklets on the history of Desford.
- Our archives are stored at SiD and the archivists are currently entering the details onto Modes (computer programme). It is our aim, in the future, to make the information available to the community. The archivists work in the front office at SiD on most Thursday mornings between 9.30 and 12.30. We welcome additions to our archives and local history enquiries, and are happy to see visitors by prior arrangement.
- We take part in local and regional events.
- We are members of the Leicestershire and Rutland Heritage Forum (lrhf.co.uk).
Meetings, with talks, are held at 7.30pm on the third Tuesday of alternate months in Desford Free Church.
Membership costs £12 per year.
Visitors are welcome at all meetings for a fee of £3 per meeting.
There is an ‘annual trip’ and we visit places of local and national interest.
