1980's

1986 Parish Council (DPC) Sporting Questionnaire: outcome need for Bowls and more Football

1987 5 acre plot purchased by DPC from Caterpillar UK Ltd (£25K)

1988 An independent Body – Sport in Desford or SiD – formed to manage the site

1989 Further plot purchased by DPC from local farmer, Brian Neep for the Bowls Green

1989 Significant planting scheme established by Leics Environmental Trust

1990's

1990      8 year Development Plan devised, including proposed 2 storey Clubhouse

1990      Winner of Herald and Post Green Award

     Using DPC, LCC and Sports Council grants, both football pitch and bowls green laid down

1991      Won Merit at Leicestershire Best Village Tree Planting Scheme

1992      Planning permission secured for new Clubhouse

     Desford United FC lead on self build of changing rooms at Kirkby Road supported by SiD

1993      Rural Venture Award finalists for Kirkby Road building

     Foundation for Sport & the Arts award £45K towards clubhouse

1994      Double tennis court and squash court refurbished

     Subsidiary grants awarded toward clubhouse

1995      Self build kitchen and toilet extension to the squash court

1996      3rd attempt at National Lottery grant succeeds – £187.2K awarded

     Portacabin set up to provide temporary clubhouse facility

1997      New 2 storey Clubhouse build starts

1998      Clubhouse in operation

1999      Tennis Court surround netting replaced

1999      Gym fitted out with second hand equipment bought at auction

2000 - 2009

2000      Old squash court completely refurbished

2001      Bowls green auto watering system installed by volunteer members

2002      Tennis courts resurfaced and floodlit

     Extra Office Space created in eaves of existing building

2003      Bridge created between squash courts

     Squash court changing rooms created by refurbishing 1995 extension to squash courts

2004      Simple football fencing installed

2005      Drive Tarmacced with pedestrian lighting

2006      Fencing and dugouts for Football pitch established

2007      Second Sponsored Bike Ride to Skegness raises £3K

2008      Desford Lawn Tennis Club established and gains Clubmark status

2009      Energy Audit provides initiative for several insulation & renewable energy projects

2010 - 2017

2010      Rainwater harvesting increased to 18,000 litres to water bowls green

2011      Building starts on the Scout Hall Extension on the front of the SiD Clubhouse

2012      First array of 92 Solar Panels (23KWp) installed on main clubhouse SE facing roof

     Relaying of the Peckleton Lane Football Pitch

     New clubhouse furniture purchased

     3rd floodlit Tennis Court built

     Replacement of Bowls sprinkler system

2013      Tarmaccing of main car park

     Desford Local History Archive to SiD front office

2014      Second array of 48 Solar Panels (12KWp) installed on Scout Hall flat roof

     A water and weatherproof  Tennis Shelter built to replace old carport

     New drainage field for septic tank established

     Refurbishment of Kirkby Road changing rooms with heaters and new windows

     Squash Courts refurbished and external end wall re-rendered

     New treatment room established

2015      Third array of 36 Solar Panels (9KWp) installed on Squash Court and Tennis Shelter roofs

     Relocation of ‘Spanish steps’ to side of 3rd Tennis Court

     Physio in Desford established at SiD

2016      Enhancement of the Bowls Green surround with slabs and pavers

     Installation of LED lights in main rooms, corridors and external lights

     Enhancement of football showers and tiling changing room floors

     Planning Approval secured for new double sports court for netball, tennis and futsal

2017   Extra 150mm of insulation placed above all suspended ceilings on first floor in the clubhouse

   Floodlights doubled up on old double tennis court to improve illumination

   Natural Elements Physiotherapy takes over from Physio in Desford

   2 new Yoga and Pilates classes start

   Plastic sheeting placed around lower walls in Scout Hall
